PURPOSE: A system for automatically tracking a position of a specific object and a tracking method are provided to continuously track the specific object even if another object equal to the specific object in a shape appears in the middle of tracking the specific object. CONSTITUTION: An image input unit(20) inputs moving pictures to an automatic tracking system. A storage unit(50) includes a still image memory(53) storing still images, a track object information memory(54) having information of at least one or more track objects, and a color information memory(51) having data related to colors. A still image extracting unit extracts a specific still image from the moving pictures for inputting the specific still image to the still image storage part. A detecting unit(30) extracts information related to the track object from the still image for inputting the extracted information to the track object information storage part. The detecting unit detects the track object from the moving pictures. A control unit(40) controls the automatic tracking system.
