It has been found that by coating with a very dilute polymer solution or dispersion, e.g. a solution or dispersion of at least one polymer in a solvent of concentration less than 0.1 wt.% and final removal of the solvent it is possible to deposit extremely thin, strongly adhering, mechanically and chemically stable coatings on surfaces which show hardly any swelling in organic solvents.
