The method for determining the grip of a road surface using any motor vehicle, involves measurement of its braking deceleration by measurement of its movement data. The road grip coefficient is then determined using the calculated deceleration, other vehicle data and the slope of the road on which the tests are being carried out. The invention also relates to a corresponding device for implementation of the invention. The device comprises either a GPS system or acceleration sensor or both for determination of movement and deceleration figures.
