The mechanism has a set of rails (5) resting on the tunnel floor (35) and there is a pusher device (33) with a machine frame (32). A material removal frame (2) can move over the rails and carries actuators (8) pressing up against the roof (36) support (10). The system also includes a guide linkage (9) which may prevent sideways motion of the roof support. There are cylinders (13) for pushing back the material removal frame on the rails.
