PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress reduction in the initial efficiency (efficiency of the first cycle) of inserting and desorption of lithium in a lithium secondary battery. PSOLUTION: The oxidation reaction or the initial efficiency (the efficiency of the first cycle) of insertion and desorption of lithium can be suppressed by reducing the surface area per a unit volume, when an average grain size of an electrode material for the secondary battery is set at: 0.1 m. Efficiency of the 10th cycle can be held high, when the average grain size of the electrode material is set at: 2.5 m. Generation of rapid oxidative reaction in a manufacturing process can be prevented, when an oxygen content in the electrode material is set at: 0.5 wt%. The initial efficiency can be 80%, when an oxygen element content is set at: 5 wt%. The initial efficiency can be set 80%, when a conductive auxiliary material is added by: 30 wt% to an electrode made of silicon, and variations (variations between the 5th cycle and the 10th cycle) of the desorption amount of lithium can be reduced, when the auxiliary material is added by: 60 wt%.
