The invention relates to a method for the purification and/or isolation of filamental bacteriophages, carrying antigens not naturally found on filamental bacteriophages on the surfaces thereof, from a mixture of bacteriophages, comprising said bacteriophages and bacteriophages not carrying said antigens on the surfaces thereof with the method step of affinity chromatographic separation of the mixture on particulate chromatographic material, whereby at least 1X1013 antigen-carrying bacteriophages are separated per gram of chromatographic material, which do not carry said unnatural antigen and the chromatographic material comprises a ligand which specifically binds to the antigen which does not naturally occur on filamental bacteriophages.
