Extracts and fractions of Areca catechu var. dulcissima increasing antioxidant activity and compositions containing the same

PURPOSE: Provided are an extract of Areca catechu L. seed activating antioxidation activity and a composition containing the same. The extract shows inhibition effect on the formation of lipid peroxide. CONSTITUTION: An extract of Areca catechu L. seed activating antioxidation activity in vivo is extracted with a polar solvent, 70% methanol. The extract inhibits the formation of lipid peroxide in vivo. A composition containing the extract of Areca catechu L. seed is used for drugs or cosmetics to prevent damage to cells.
