Method for producing very fine particles (10) of a fusible solid (2)comprises: (a) producing an emulsion (8) in which droplets of molten solid are held in a liquid (3) at high temperature and pressure; (b) mechanical treatment of the emulsion, to reduce the size of the droplets; and (c) reducing the pressure so that the liquid evaporates and the droplets are cooled and solidify. Method for producing very fine particles (10) of a fusible solid (2)comprises: (a) producing an emulsion (8) in which droplets of molten solid are held in a liquid (3) at high temperature and pressure; (b) mechanical treatment of the emulsion, e.g. with a rotor/stator emulsifier (7), to reduce the size of the droplets; and (c) reducing the pressure so that the liquid evaporates and the droplets are cooled and solidify. An Independent claim is also included for very fine particles of solids, especially polymers, produced using the process.
