The district heating system has a supply unit (1) for domestic water preparation to supply hot water from two plate heat exchangers (2,3). The supply unit (5) for heating consists of one heat exchanger (6) as a substitute for a boiler type, large volume storage tank and piping system. By means of the plate heat exchangers used as a preheater and additional cooler the water temperature is cooled to 15 degrees C, and by means of the plate heat exchangers used as an after-heater the hot water temperature is raised at the hot water tapping points (4) of the consumer.
