Improvement of production capacity and product quality in a reheat furnace for flat steel products using a preheating zone equipped with an oxy-fuel burner

Improvement of the capacity of a preheating furnace and the metallurgical quality of the products treated in which a metal product (1) defiles successively through a reheating zone (8) then a heating zone (9) in which is arranged a heating system. At least one oxy-fuel burner is arranged in the preheating zone (4) of the furnace, the distance between the axis of the flame at the burner outlet and the plane in which the product is defiling being between 2D and 6D, preferably between 2.5D and 5D, where D is the diameter of the equivalent orifice of the burner. An independent claim is also included for a reheat furnace incorporating a preheating zone and at least one heating zone incorporating the oxy-fuel burner in the preheating zone.
