Disclosed is a method of providing local addressing of memory cells for use with global and local memory addressing in multi-processor systems. The local addressing is provided by a method comprising, providing an address of a row of data cells in the memory, writing to a selected cell by driving a select cell line and driving a master row select line. The row select line is driven with a decode address bit that signals when the row of data cells selected is to be read or written, wherein the row of data cells corresponds to the select cell. The master row select line is driven with a binary value of one and the select cell is read from or written to while the master row select line value is high. The memory could be static random access memory. Also disclosed are methods and apparatus for providing local addressing characterised by providing decode logic for an address, performing an operation on a row of data cells comprising a decoder with n input and 2^n outputs, comprising a register file memory, an address decoder that outputs master row select lines and a parallel processor in which the processors accesses locally addresses that were previously associated with the respective processor.
