PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic petroleum resin for a hot melt adhesive, an aromatic petroleum resin composition for the hot melt adhesive and a hot melt adhesive composition excellent in heating stability and heat adhesion resistance by using the same. PSOLUTION: The aromatic petroleum resin for the hot melt adhesive has (1) 30-43 % aromatic hydrogen area ratio, (2) 0.7 % olefinic double bond hydrogen area ratio and (3) 0.5 % hydroxy-originated hydrogen area ratio in its proton NMR spectrum, and has 1.75 (Mw/Mn) molecular weight distribution. The aromatic petroleum resin composition for the hot melt adhesive is obtained by blending a hindered amine compound with the aromatic petroleum resin. Also, the aromatic petroleum resin composition for the hot melt adhesive is obtained by blending 50-150 pts. wt. aromatic petroleum resin for the hot melt adhesive with 100 pts. wt. ethylene-unsaturated ester copolymer and/or the aromatic petroleum resin composition for the hot melt adhesive with 10-100 pts. wt. wax and 100 pts. wt. ethylene-unsaturated ester copolymer.
