INHIBITION OF GENE EXPRESSION BY DELIVERY OF SPECIALLY SELECTED DOUBLE STRANDED OR OTHER FORMS OF SMALL INTERFERING RNA PRECURSORS ENABLING THE FORMATION AND FUNCTION OF SMALL INTERFERING RNA IN VIVO AND IN VITRO
The use of specially selected sequences from the target geneinto designing double stranded or other forms of RNA (siRNAprecursors or siRNAp) that enables small interfering RNA(siRNA) from this new invention is delivered for inhibitionof cellular gene expression. Diseases may be prevented andtreated by this process, e.g. Severe Acute RespiratorySyndrome (SARS) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)infections. The process may be practiced in vivo or invitro. The small interfering RNA enabled is of sequencesusually of 23 nucleotides or less. The invented method ofsequence selection from the target gene, however, may beapplicable to double stranded RNA of any length.
