IMPLEMENTING DATA QUALITY USING RULE BASES AND KNOWLEDGE ENGINEERING

Knowledge engineering methodology and tools are applied to the problems ofdataquality and the process of data auditing. Business rules and data conventionsare represented asconstraints on data which must be met. The data quality system and process ofthe presentinvention functions to allow good data to pass through a system of constraintsunchecked. Baddata, on the other hand, violate constraints and are flagged. Aftercorrection, this data is then fedback through the system. Advantageously, constraints are added incrementallyas a betterunderstanding of the business rules is gained.
