PURPOSE: A method for assigning a spare area, a method for recording data in the assigned spare area, a device therefor and an information storage medium therefor are provided to assign a spare area such that at least a portion of a part where a length of a recording or reproducing unit block is shorter than the circumference of a disk-type information storage medium can be included, thereby increasing reliability of data recorded in the spare area. CONSTITUTION: A spare area is assigned to include at least a portion of a part where a length of a recording or reproducing unit block is shorter than the circumference of a disk-type information storage medium. Data is recorded in the assigned spare area. The data is recorded toward the inside circumference from the outside circumference of a track formed in the spare area. The data is repeatedly recorded in the spare area. The spare area is divided into plural logical areas or physical areas. The data is repeatedly recorded in at least a portion of the divided plural areas with at least write-once method.
