PURPOSE: A write once disk capable of managing a data area is provided to record area assignment information on the structure of a data area such that a disk drive can recognize the structure, thereby assigning spare areas within the data area. CONSTITUTION: A system includes a predetermined area for recording area assignment information showing whether at least one area for defect management is assigned to a data area. The area assignment information shows the size of the area assigned to the data area. The area assigned to the data area for defect management is at least one of a spare area, a TDDS(Temporary Disk Defect Structure), a TDFL(Temporary Defect List), and a TDMA(Temporary Disk Management Area). A space bit map information area for recording data recording area information is further comprised. The data recording area information includes head information and a bit map showing an area where data is recorded.
