A small fuel power plant (10) comprises an internal combustion engine (12) which emits an exhaust gas (18) produced during combustion, the internal combustion engine (12) having a mechanical efficiency of at least 50%. The small fuel power plant further comprises at least one with the internal combustion engine (12) coupled generator (20, 22) for generating electricity and an active heat exchanger (26) integrated in a buffer memory. The exhaust gas is passed either via a bypass on the heat exchanger or through the heater contained in the heat exchanger. By supplying fuel into the heater, the thermal power supplied to the buffer memory can be increased.
