Current traffic conditions are detected (1) along with any traffic density to be expected, i.e. jam forecast. Interaction of detected traffic density with route attributes stored in a digital map is determined (2). Based on cartographic route attributes, volume of traffic is taken into account (3). Parameters detected from volume of traffic are stored in a digital map (4).
