Method for estimating the combustion chamber pressure of combustion engine, wherein the engine is modeled using a multi-parameter model (1, 2) to output values for a combustion chamber pressure and modeled varying torque (MW). The current engine torque (IW) is measured and the two torque values compared (4, 5) in order to change the model parameters. When the two torque values are matched the model value for the chamber pressure is taken as an estimation of the actual pressure. An independent claim is made for a device for estimating the combustion chamber pressure of a combustion engine that comprises a computer and connected engine torque measurement device.
