Use of palonosetron in the treatment and prevention of chemotherapy and radiotherapy-induced acute and delayed emesis

Treatment of chemotherapy or radiotherapy-induced acute and delayed emesis involves administration of palonosetron (P1). ACTIVITY : Antiemetic. The antiemetic efficacy of palonosetron (P1) against chemotherapy-induced emesis was evaluated in dogs treated with cisplatin (intravenous dosage of 3 mg/kg). The dogs were administered with (P1) (test) at intravenous dosage of 0.1 mg/kg or vehicle (control) 10 hours prior to administration of cisplatin. The emetic episodes were found to be 9.83+-4.79/19.33+-5.68 in test/control. The results also showed that (P1) protected even when administered 1 hour prior to administration of cisplatin and even at doses as low as 0.3 mg/kg.
