Composition for stimulating the immune system, useful e.g. in cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, comprises extracts of plants of the families Liliaceae and Capparidaceae

Use of at least one extract (I) of a plant of the family Liliaceae and at least one extract (II) of a plant of the family Capparidaceae in, or for preparation of, a composition (A) for stimulating the immune defense system, is new. ACTIVITY : Anti-HIV; Virucide; Cytostatic; Immunostimulant. Twelve subjects seropositive for HIV were treated with a composition containing extracts of A. vera and B. macrophylla (doses not specified). After 4 months treatment, there was a significant reduction in serum levels of (a) the HIV-1 antigen p24 and (b) immunoglobulins G directed against HIV-1 and -2. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
