The method involves selecting a reference image from a memory. A visual similarity criterion of images is determined by comparing points of interest or color and text of images. Images that are close to the reference image are searched in Internet based on the criterion to add a note to each image according to a distance of the images from the reference image. Publication of the reference image is decided based on the search result. An independent claim is also included for a digital image processing apparatus having a device for assisting publication of images on a data transmission network.
