PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treating substances containing heavy metals, which can effectively treat objects to be treated containing heavy metals and can suppress the amount of elution thereof to an environmental quality standard value or below or to an extremely small amount by stabilizing the heavy metals under any of acidic, neutral and alkaline conditions.;SOLUTION: A semi-crystalloidal clay mineral and/or tannin is incorporated into the stabilizing material for the heavy metals and more preferably, one or more kinds of iron oxide (III), aluminum sulfate and sodium thiosulfate are compounded therewith. The iron oxide (III), the aluminum sulfate and the sodium thiosulfate or the iron oxide (III), and the sodium thiosulfate are otherwise incorporated further into the stabilizing material for the heavy metals. Also, the method for treating the substances containing the heavy metals comprises adding the stabilizing material for the heavy metals to the treated objects containing the heavy metals and adding water thereto to induce a hydration reaction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
