The cultivation plate (1) has parallel spaced grooves (2) for reception of the seedlings, the growing space for each seedling defined between the walls (3,4) of the groove and a pair of transverse partitions (21,31), both of which taper inwards. The transverse partitions may have central thickened areas for retention of the root ball.
