The apparatus has data processing units connected to an online sensor which scans on an overhead wire. The units have an image creation part to create the image of the sensor which is stored in a memory. An image processing part digitizes the image for creating the digitized sensor and a noise elimination processing part. A detection part detects the edges of a worn part of the wire in the image. A calculation part calculates the width of the worn part based on the data related to the detected edges and the height of the wire. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a vehicle for inspecting usury of overhead wire (2) a method for measurement of usury of an overhead wire.
