An alkaline cell is described which has a housing plan, preferably of fonna cuboid.The cell can have an anode comprising zinc and a cathode comprising MnO ~ 2 ~. The housing can have a relatively small general thickness, typically between about 5 and 10 mm.The contents of the cell can be supplied through an open end in the housing and a set of end cap inserted therein to seal the cell.There may be a gap between the separator and the cathode electrolyte for insertion of additional.The whole of the end cap includes an exhaust mechanism, preferably a sigh carved.That can be activated when the gas pressure within the cell to reach a mobile level typically between about 250 and 800 psig (x 10u00ac foreseen to be built 3u00ac and 5.515 x 10u00ac 3u00ac Pascal manometer).The cell may have an additional exhaust mechanism, such as a laser welded region on the surface of the housing which can be activated at higher pressure levels.
