In the present invention, there is described a pleuromutilin derivative being represented by mutilin 14-(exo-8-methyl-8-azabicyclo[3,2,1]-3-octylsulphanyl)acetate of the general formula I, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, a pharmaceutical composition in which such compound is comprised as well as the use of the compound for the preparation of a medicament intended for treating microbial infections. The medicaments is adapted for nasal cavity administration to reduce or eliminate nasal support of pathogenic organisms, further for prophylaxis of recurrent otitis media or recurrent acute bacterial sinusitis, or it can be adapted for local administration to treat skin a infection of soft tissues and acne.
