A basin filled with liquid contains two holes which allow a ring to pass through when the ring is upright, so that one half of the ring is inside and the other half is outside the basin, so that the ring is in equilibrium and held in position by guides. The liquid is kept inside the basin by sealing the hole around with the ring with a packing. The ring can be made from a single material such as wood or it can be made from different material segments, so long as it floats in the liquid. The top half of the ring is subjected to an upward momentum due to flotation and the bottom half of the ring is subjected to a downward momentum due to gravity, causing the ring to rotate.
