The protective sleeve (29) for the piston rod (9) of a car shock absorber is mounted on a ring (17) made up of two half rings which fit inside the sleeve so that they are locked together. A disk (15) attached to the piston rod fits into grooves on the inside of the half rings and holds the complete assembly in place.
