Preparation of polyalkenyl amine comprises reaction of a component comprising at least a simple unsaturated polyalkene with carbon monoxide and hydrogen to give a hydroformylated polyalkene, and reaction of hydroformylated polyalkene with hydrogen and ammonia or an amine having at least a primary or secondary amino group; where before the above steps, polyalkene or hydroformylated polyalkene is dissolved in a first solvent and the first solvent is replaced by a second solvent.
