The aircraft turbofan jet engine has a core power plant (10) shrouded by a mantle (11). The engine has a primary jet (24) and a rotor (12), with a ring-shaped side flow path (21) between the rotor and mantle. An outer housing (20) forms a ring-shaped main flow path (13) between it and the mantle in a converging thrust jet (23). An adjustment system (30) for the side jet (23) and/or primary jet (24) has two rings (31,32) with relative rotation between them. They have contoured rear edges and a closed setting for a small jet outflow surface and an open setting for a large outflow surface.
