The system has a secondary air pump (SLP), two valves (VE) for feeding the secondary air flow into at least one exhaust pipe (AG), valve lines (VL) for feeding the secondary air flow to the valves, two pressure sensors (DS), one in each valve line and a branching device (V) for coupling the pump to the valve lines so that secondary flow is distribute to the valve lines and a flow one from one valve line is choked in the other valve line and vice-versa.
