2D-locating system for a vehicle traveling at low speed has wheel speed sensors, means for storing the impulses arising from these sensors, a central processing unit with a clock which is used to add a time stamp to each sensor impulse and an odometer which processes the stored data to determine the vehicle's position. The odometer has time measurement means and determines a virtual step to calculate the vehicle's position based on an odometry equation.
