PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo writer capable of writing servo signals satisfactorily on servo bands even in the case where degrees of thin thickness of magnetic layers are different and a servo writing method.;SOLUTION: The servo writer 10 is equipped with a magnetic tape running system which makes a magnetic tape MT run by winding the magnetic tape MT sent out from a feed-out reel with a take-up reel, a DC erasing head 14 which magnetizes servo bands SB in one direction of the longitudinal direction of the tape MT, a servo signal writing head 15 which writes servo signals SS in the servo bands SB by magnetizing the servo bands SB to reverse directions, a servo signal reading head 16 which reads out the servo signals SS written on the servo bands SB and a controller 19 which controls a demagnetizing current 18a which is supplied to the DC erasing head 14 based on output values of the servo signals SS read out with the servo signal reading head 16.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
