The invention concerns a protease inhibitor compound comprising molecules extracted from mother-of-pearl with a molecular mass between 100 Da and 400 Da. The invention also concerns a process for the extraction of protease inhibitor molecules comprising the steps for extracting the molecules from mother-of-pearl powder using an aqueous solution, purifying the extract obtained according to fractions of different molecular weights, and selecting the fractions with protease inhibitor activity.
