DIRECT-INJECTION ENGINE WITH SMALL NAPPE ANGLE AND PROCESSES ALLOWING SUCH AN ENGINE TO BE USED

A direct-injection engine with a small nappe angle and a method of using the engine are provided to permit an excellent carry-over of vapor fuel at a high load and a wide injection condition at a low load by installing an injection nozzle with a nappe angle of less than 2Arctg(CD/2F). A direct-injection engine with a small nappe angle comprises multiple cylinders(1) with a cylinder head(2), a piston(5) sliding in the cylinder, a suction valve(3) and an exhaust valve(4), a combustion chamber, an end of which is confined by an upper face(SP) of a piston having a teat(7) placed between concave bowls facing the cylinder head, and at least one fuel injection nozzle(6) with a nappe angle of less than 2Arctg(CD/2F), where CD is a diameter of the cylinder, and F is a distance from a fuel injection point of the injection nozzle to the position of the piston corresponding to a crankshaft angle of 50° to a top dead center.
