A longitudinally scavenged two-stroke large diesel engine and a method for filling charge air in a cylinder of the same are provided to prevent an engine from being damaged by adjusting the amount of charge air supplied to a cylinder under the charge air environmental conditions. A method for filling charge air in a cylinder of a longitudinally scavenged two-stroke large diesel engine comprises a cylinder(2) and an exhaust valve(8). A slot(5) is provided in an inlet(4) of the cylinder in order to supply charge air. The exhaust valve is provided at a cylinder cover(6) of the cylinder to discharge combustion gas(7). Fresh air(9) is introduced into an exhaust gas turbocharger(10) and is transferred to the cylinder with a predetermined charge air pressure(PL) through the slot. Temperature sensors(12,13) are provided to measure intake temperature of the fresh air and temperature(TL) of the charge air.
