The method involves calculating the driver-related profile from multiple biometric characteristic values. The determination of conformity grades of the profile with a driver-related reference profile stored in a data memory. The signal is displayed, if the certain conformity grades are fulfilled by pre-defined criteria. The reference profile is determined in a learning mode. The sending of short messaging service (SMS) is assigned to the intervals as signal. An independent claim is also included for a device for identifying the driver of a vehicle.
