The method involves arranging a seal between an application roller and an upper surface of a motor vehicle-door (1). The seal is conveyed at a conveying speed in a direction of the application roller by a conveying device. The door and an application head are moved relative to each other with a speed by applying a pressing force on the seal. The conveying speed is controlled proportional to the relative speed by a control unit (10). The conveying speed is varied with multipliers for influence of expansion of the seal when applied on the motor vehicle-door. An independent claim is also included for a device for applying a seal on an upper surface of a motor vehicle-door.
