The method involves having a mechanism to assist a driver of a vehicle (1) when driving in a lane (2), in which the course of the lane (2) and the position of the vehicle (1) relative to the lane (2) and uses a tracking detection system. Feedback is given to the driver when to leave the lane. A left and a right steering angle limit is identified, which limits a maximum allowable steering angle and stops the vehicle to not to leave the lane. The driver is given feedback in relation to the deviation of a current steering angle from the steering angle limits.
