The internal combustion engine has a combustion chamber (16) on which a device, particularly a glow plug (26) is assigned for supporting ignition. A fuel injector (10) is provided which has an additional injection opening (14) at the combustion chamber-side end. A combustion chamber cover (18) extends into the combustion chamber. The glow plug extends into a recess (40) which is designed in the combustion chamber cover.
