The method involves providing a text editor and a terminal emulator to a test terminal (1). An access unit, interpreters and a test execution unit are provided to hardware test interfaces (3-5). The interpreters interpret a text of a test control message and a test result, respectively. The interfaces are interrogated using a test control text. The control text is interpreted at the interfaces. The test is executed, and text of a test result message is provided to a serial bus (2). The text of test result message is analyzed at the terminal.
