The machine (1) has an infusion chamber (10) including a receptacle (11) with an opening to receive a pre-packed product dose (4) to be infused. A cover (12) is movable relative to the receptacle between open and closed positions by an action of a control device. A supply duct (8) delivers the product dose from an introduction opening (9) till the receptacle by passing via a free space of the chamber in open position. A product dose detection device (21) indicates presence/absence of the dose in a preset detection zone to the control device. The zone is located in the free space. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling an infusion making machine.
