PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drunken driving prevention device and the method of collecting factor substances for drunken driving, where it is possible to improve precision in detecting alcohol contained in gases discharged through a driver's skin. PSOLUTION: This drunken driving prevention device measures the concentration of alcohol contained in the blood of a driver from the alcohol contained in the gas discharged through his skin. An inner space 12 is provided inside a shift lever 1 operated by a driver, and an introduction opening 22 making the inner space 12 communicate with outdoor air is formed in a part 24 of the shift lever 1 with which the driver's skin can be expected to touch when he operates the shift lever 1. An alcohol detection part 20 to collect alcohol contained in the gas from the driver is positioned at a place higher than the introduction opening 22 within the inner space 12. This will allow the alcohol detection part 20 to detect the gas that rises through the inner space 12 after its specific gravity lowered by its temperature rise following the driver's body heat.
