The device has a counter bearing arranged in a pointed angle at an element (2). A brake body (1) is movable along to the counter bearing at a surface facing the element so that a brake effect is occurred. An actuator is provided for producing force (Fa) and has connecting units that are arranged for transmission of the force between the actuator and the brake body. The connecting units guide the force into the brake body opposite to a moving direction (V2) of moving elements. A bearing (8) for supporting the brake body is arranged between the brake body and the counter bearing. An independent claim is also included for a method for decelerating an element.
