The device (1) has radio frequency identification reading unit reading a code for an identification of a product, and a product database storing product identification ecological product data. An evaluating unit detects the code with the reading unit for the product, where an output quantity is generated based on the stored product data in the product database. The output quantity represents a measurement for an environmental impact of the product. An output unit outputs the output quantity, and the reading unit is integrated in a computer unit e.g. personal digital assistant (3).
