The method involves determining fuel consumption for calculated routes, where one of the routes is selected. Route guidance is performed based on the selected route. Two speed-dependent fuel consumption and associated travel time ranges are calculated for the routes depending on preset speed profiles. Calculated velocity-dependent fuel consumption and associated travel time ranges are compared. Fuel consumption savings are issued with an associated travel time range extension and/or increase in fuel consumption is issued with an associated travel time reduction depending on the comparison. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for navigation of a motor vehicle.
