The method involves cooling natural gas by a heat exchanger to obtain a cooled gas. The cooled gas is distilled in a distilling column (C1) operating at a pressure ranging between 25 and 60 bars to obtain a column head gas and a liquid rich in carbon dioxide. The column head gas is liquefied by cooling at a temperature ranging between minus 70 - minus 40 degree Celsius to obtain a gas flow rich in methane and a liquid fraction. The fraction is introduced in a head of the column and pressure of the liquid is increased to produce a pressurized fluid i.e. coolant (81), that cools the natural gas.
