USE OF AN AEROSOL FORMULATION CONTAINING ABOUT 0.5 TO 20% (WEIGHT / WEIGHT) OF A SELECTED SALT FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF A MAGNESIUM SALT, A CALCIUM SALT, AN ALIUM SALT, A SALT SCANDIUM, A TITANIUM SALT, A VANADIUM SALT, A CHROME SALT, A COBALT SALT, A NICKEL SALT, A COPPER SALT, A MANGANE SALT, A TIN SALT, AND A COMBINATION OF THE SAME, AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION. The present invention relates to conductive formulations containing conductive agents such as salts, ionic blood, or other substances that are in an ionized or readily ionized state in an aqueous or organic solvent environment, and methods of use have been developed. One or more active agents, such as antivirals, antimicrobials, anti-inflammatories, proteins or peptides, may optionally be included with the formulation. The active agent may be administered with or incorporated into the formulation, or may be administered after the conductive formulation is administered. When applied to mucosal lining fluids, the formulation alters physical properties such as surface tension, surface elasticity and viscosity of the mucosal lining. The formulation is administered in an amount sufficient to alter the biophysical properties in the mucosal lining of the body. The formulations may be administered for a variety of different purposes: reducing the spread of both viral and bacterial infectious diseases such as SARS, influenza, tuberculosis, and RSV in humans and hoof and mouth disease in split hoof animals; minimize environmental contamination due to particulate formation during breathing, coughing, sneezing or speaking which is particularly important in environment sterilization applications; decrease or prevent the occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea and some cases of irritable bowel syndrome; and control the absorption kinetics of drug and pathogen molecules.
