The device has a rear part (1) with a support (7) for a patient (6) i.e. acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patient. The rear part is coupled with a lower side part (2) such that the device is rotatable around 180 degrees. The rear part includes a rectangular frame (3) for receiving the support. The lower side part includes a rectangular frame (8) with a support (9). The support of the rear part and/or the support of the lower side part is formed by a vacuum mattress. The rear part and the lower side part are detachable from each other and are pivotable relative to each other.
